There are several tools to help you manage the plethora of passwords we all accumulate online. There are some tools that just manage passwords while other also fill in web forms. Some have to be installed in a particular computer while some are portable and can be carried on a USB key.
LastPass offers just about every feature found in any of its competition at a very attractive and affordable price – FREE!
The major difference between LastPass and other tools is that, while most other tools store your password locally in some encrypted form, LastPass stores your form-fill and password data online. That means you can access your data from anywhere. But that also means that your sensitive data is stored on somebody else’s server. This might worry some, but LastPass explains why there is nothing to worry and why this is in fact safe.
While your data is in storage and during transmission across the Web, it remains protected by 256-bit AES encryption. The data gets decrypted only on your local system, using a strong master password that only you know. If you forget the master password, LastPass can’t recover your data. All you can do in that case is wipe out your account and start over.
During install, LastPass imports passwords from Internet Explorer and Firefox and puts them in a secure location and also offers to delete them from the insecure location. Like most modern password managers, LastPass automatically captures the username and password as you log in to most web site. Moreover, it captures passwords entered using the separate Windows password dialog. And the 1-Click feature handles nonstandard field types and multipage log-in by letting you save all data fields on each page.
LastPass can also import existing password and form data from other apps. Because LastPass is an online service, you can access it from anywhere.
Give it a try and LastPass may be ‘The last password you’ll ever need’.
