Transfz (Pronounced transfuse) is a free application that lets you launch online searches from virtually any document or application whether it be on the desktop or on the web.

Using it is very simple. Just select the word or phrase that you want to search. Press [Ctrl]+D which is the default hotkey to bring up the Transfz menu and select the Search engine that you want to use. Your default browser is automatically launched and the search results displayed.

By default Transfz enables searching in Google, Digg, TheFreeDictionary, Wikipedia and YouTube. It also supports Yahoo, Flickr and a few others too. You just have to enable them from the options. You are not restricted to using the default searches alone. You can include any search engine through the ‘Plugin Creator‘.

You can further speed things up by setting up hotkeys for individual search sites. For example you could set [Ctrl]+G as the hotkey for Google. Now all you have to do is select the word or phrase and press [Ctrl]+G to launch the search.

Besides helping you with searches, Transfz does a few more things that can make your life easier.

Transfz extends the clipboard by allowing you to insert text by selecting among the last 30 entries of copied text. This is an immense time saver. With Transfz installed you may not need a separate clipboard manager.

There is more. Transfz allows you to perform powerful macro editing by using Extensions. For example you can select any editable text and from the context menu ([Ctrl]+D) choose to change it to UPPER case. You can get more extensions from the Transfz site or even write your own extensions.

I have installed Transfz and find each one of its features immensely useful. I would highly recommend that you try it – remember it is Free.

Dear sir / madam, Because you are mentioned in the author’s reviews on their homepage, pleas take note of this:

With regard to your review or hosting of Transfz (the amount of trusted sites carrying/reviewing Transfz was one of the reasons I (and possibly more people) decided that it would have to be honest, safe software).. I thought it would be in place to warn you about
this.

Transfz appeared to contain malware. I’ve already contacted softpedia about this, who have immediately (after their own research) removed the software from their website.

I assume you might want to do the same with either the software, or the review of the software (maybe even warning your users for it, but of course that’s up to you).

(And then to think that I even donated $5 ‘for the forests’… I was a bit too quick with my donation) :-)

Hope to have helped you a bit.

Fortunately this has been a FALSE ALARM of AdAware 2006, which has been investigated by LavaSoft. It’s all been restored in the newest updates for AdAware…

Sorry to Janus for the above: hope the webmaster will be so kind to remove this!
