If you are a regular watcher of youtube videos you must be already aware that many of the videos are available in two modes, normal and high quality and depending on your internet speed you could choose to watch the video in the preferred mode.
By default a video loads up in either normal quality or high quality depending on the current connection speed. If the video is playing in the normal mode and a high quality version is also available, then the player shows a HQ button. Clicking on the HQ button starts playing the high quality version of video. But if you would prefer to always watch videos in HQ mode (of course, if available), then you can change that in your account preference.

Just sign into your account and go to your account settings. Click on <i>Playback Setup. Under Video Playback Quality, choose the option ‘I have a fast connection. Always play higher-quality video when it’s available.’ and click ‘Save Changes’. That should allow you to always view videos in high-quality version whenever available.
Sometimes, videos may not show up in high quality mode even when available. Here is a little trick you can try to view the video in HQ mode. In your browser address bar, just after the url of the video, add &fmt=18 and hit Enter.
Here is an example
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGoWtY_h4xo&fmt=18
That should start playing the video in HQ mode.
