Google has recently launched Hot Trends, a new feature on Google Trends that lets users see a list of today’s top 100 fastest-rising Google search queries in the U.S. Users can also choose to see what the top searches were on a specific day within the last 7 days. With this new feature you can find out searches that have suddenly gained popularity. The Hot Trends data is updated several times a day and so what is popular in the morning may not be most popular in the evening. (If you have not heard about Google Trends yet, read about it here.)
“Hot Trends is Google’s newest tool for users who want to keep their finger on the pulse of what the world is searching for,” Google said in a statement.
As a result of the new Hot Trend feature, Google will discontinue producing the weekly Google Zeitgeist, a manually compiled list of popular searches. However, Google will continue to produce a year-end Zeitgeist for users.
Google said results for each Hot Trends report will include information from the associated Google News, blog searches and Google Web search results, putting the information in context for users.
In addition to Hot Trends, Google is adding other features to its Google Trends tool. Besides being able see the most popular searches in certain countries and cities, users will be able to view the top searches in certain “sub regions,” such as states within a country.

It was interesting to see how the Sopranos dominated all the searches yesterday. If you regularly use Google Hot Trends, you might be interested in adding the hot-trends gadget to your google home page. Just click on the “Add Stuff” link and search for “hot-trends”.
