This is just one of the many scams that I receive everyday in my mail box. I wonder whether the person(s) who send mails like these, really think that people would fall for them?

Sadly, the elderly and gullible fall for such scams. One such person from UK actually went to Nigeria to meet the spammer and got killed by the spam gang. Its tragic.

I also got a letter from theis “poor woman”, among many others of similar nature. Is there a “Dumbass” mail list somewhere that I wound up on, and if so, how do I get off of it??

yes I too today 05/16/2007 recieved a letter from this so called person. I have recieved several of these offers to “help” dying people. Any one with “real” money does not need a strangers assistance with donating their money to charity. After all is that not what Lawyers are for???

One of the things that I’ve noticed about these people is that they use free e-mail services, usually Yahoo. If they had that much money, wouldn’t they have something a little more private?
I must also be the luckiest person on the face of the Earth, because over the past two months, I have also had two other “mortally ill” people want to leave me large sums of money, and I have also won at least 16 different lotteries or other payoffs. The total of all of everything that I have either inherited or won is over $750 million USD.
One thing that I’ve noticed is that the person that I must reply to always has a Yahoo e-mail address, even the “officials” and payment agents for the various lotteries that I have “won”. Some of them aren’t even in the same country where the “lottery” was supposedly drawn.

I recieved this e-mail today Aug. 24/07 red flags went up imediatley, due to a scam a few months ago about a so called relative leaving me over $10 mill USD. These people also used the yahoo.co.uk Be very carefull these people make it sound so real.

How the scam works: The person woking the scam will actually send you a check. Your bank can even call and verify the check is good. What the scammer does is find out the account number of a legitimate corporation, then forge a check with a differnt name using the account number of the legit corporation. Initially, the check will clear, and then the scammer has you send any fees, taxes, etc. through a wire service, such as Western Union. It takes up to 12 weeks for the check to be discovered as fraudulent or counterfeit. Then YOU are responsible for repayment of any funds that have been spent and/or not accounted for, as well as any fees and/or penalties that are incurred (and possibly criminal charges as well). Meanwhile, the scammer(s)has disappeared with the money that you had wired. Once wired, the transaction cannot be cancelled.
One way to find out if the person contacting you is on the up and up would be to request the funds be wired to your bank accout (set up a separate account, which can generally be done with about $20 US, and use that account). Tell them to deduct their fees from the wire transfer. If it’s a scam, they won’t do it.
If by any chance you DO receive a check under the guise of a Lottery where you did not actually purchase a ticket, or an “inheritance” where you do not actually know the benefactor, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CASH IT, and DO NOT DEPOSIT IT IN A BANK ACCOUNT!! The best thing to do is to turn it over to the authorities (National level, such as US Marshal Sevice or FBI in the US) and let them deal with it.
