CodeIDE is a web application that lets you try programming in different programming languages using an online IDE. Currently it supports BASIC, ANSI C, Pascal, Perl, Javascript, LISP and HTML. You can publish your code online, or compile and download it as a Windows or Linux executable.

The application has some pretty useful features. You can upload your own file and work on it. There is this chat facility through which you can interact with other online users. So you don’t feel like you are working alone. If in a fix you can seek help. Click the Command line tab and you can work in, well, command line mode, though the number of commands that are supported is limited.
On the whole it is a pretty useful site if you want to try programming without taking the trouble of installing anything on your computer.
