By default Firefox automatically saves your session every 10 seconds so that it can be easily restored in the even of a crash. But if you think 10 seconds is either too much or is not enough, then you can change it to whatever you think is right for you, with just a little tweak to the about:config settings.

Just type in about:config in the address bar and hit Enter. Scroll down to the entry called browser.sessionstore.interval. Double click to change the value, which is actually in milliseconds. So, to change the interval to 1 minute, you would enter 60000.

If you want to disable the session restore feature altogether for whatever reason, you could do that too. Look for the entry called browser.sessionstore.enabled (which is just above the browser.sessionstore.interval entry), and change its value from true to false. Your sessions will no longer be saved.
