Zoho Quickread is a great plug-in for Firefox/IE that lets users open common online office files like documents, spreadsheets and presentations right in the web browser.

Let’s see how it works in Firefox. Once you install the plugin and restart Firefox, you will find the ‘Zoho Options’ menu item under the Tools menu where you can change a few settings. When you find a link to a supported file like .doc or .xls, just right click on the link and you will get to see the Open in Zoho Writer or Open in Zoho Sheet˜ depending on the file.

Document files (.doc, .odt, .exi) get opened using Zoho Writer, spreadsheet files (.xls, .sxc, .csv) in Zoho Sheet and presentation files (.ppt, .pps, .sxi) in Zoho Show. The plugin automatically opens the files in the appropriate application. You can view and edit the files in the browser itself, save them to your desktop or post to your blog directly from there.
You may have noticed that when you find a link to a document or spreadsheet file in a Google search result, and you click on it, Google offers to open the file using Google docs or Google Spreadsheet. But the problem with Google is that you need to sign-in before you can open the file.
However, with Zoho Quickread you don’t have to be registered to use it. Anyone can open the files using Zoho applications. This is really wonderful.
