If you have not yet heard of Wolframalpha, then you need to check it out. WolramAlpha calls itself a ‘computational knowledge engine’ and it can do a lot of stuff for you.
But lets see how WolframAlpha can help you solve crossword puzzles. While it may not be able to do much in guessing the words from the clues, it sure can help when you know some of the letters in a word. Just type in the known letters and fill in the unknown letters with underscores.
For example if you enter _ _ _ f _ _ t _ o _ _ _t into WolframAlpha, it will come up with the suggestions, perfectionist and confectionist as shown below:
Of course, when there are more than one results, it is up to you to choose the right one that fits your clue. Ideally, this trick works well for single words rather than phrases or multiple words. So the next time you are stuck with your crossword puzzle, try a little cheating with WolframAlpha.
